Christmas Seasonal Stains Guide

Seasonal Stains – Let Renew help you this Christmas

Whether you’re hosting Christmas in your home, or just chilling out with family in front of the TV, this is the one time of year when most of us like to relax and of course, over indulge. Cleaning is usually not a priority until disaster strikes and you’re left with a nightmare stain that you need to act on quickly.

We always recommend calling in the professionals when it comes to removing stains from your carpets and upholstery. However, if you do want to try and tackle the stain yourself first this Christmas, then below we’ve given you a quick step-by-step guide to remove some of those ‘seasonal stains.’

General tips for removing stains

  1. Act quick to achieve the best results.
  2. Never scrub at a stain as you will damage the fibres and spread the stain further.
  3. Never mix a cocktail of chemicals (need we say anymore?)
  4. Always try to use white coloured cloths to clean a stain so as not to transfer coloured dyes onto the fabric.
  5. Always test your solutions on an inconspicuous area of the carpets / upholstery first.
  6. Use cleaning products from a trusted brand (Renew, will be launching our very own products in the New Year, so watch this space!)
  7. If in doubt always call in the professionals, Renew!

Glitter

Who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle this time of year? What many people don’t know is that glitter, sequins, and all that good stuff actually grows legs once inside your home and escapes everywhere…and we mean everywhere! Your favourite rug and carpets may look like the background to the Frozen movie, but in reality this stuff can be a real hassle to remove.

removing glitter from carpets

So, here’s our easiest tip ever. Vacuum, Vacuum and Vacuum again. If your carpets are still twinkling, then get out the Sellotape. Wrap a couple of layers around your hand and dab, dab, dab until normality regains. Simplies.

Chocolate

Even reading the word ‘chocolate’ makes you want to eat some! Selection boxes, tins of sweets… the list is endless at Christmas and so is the likely hood of it being embedded into your couch or carpets by over excited children and adults!

removing chocolate stains

  1. Remove any excess chocolate.
  2. Mix together some cold water with two spoons of liquid detergent.
  3. Blot the stain with the solution using a clean cloth or sponge.
  4. Continue blotting until the stain is gone.

Guinness

…Or any beer for that matter. Beer stains are a real pain as not only are they usually dark in colour, but they smell really bad too…especially the next day!

  1. Mix a solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts warm water.
  2. Use a clean white cloth / towel to dab the area with the mixture. Continue doing this until you see the stain disappearing.
  3. Dab the area dry with a clean dry towel.

Red Wine

Even if your Christmas house party is in full swing, get working on the stain immediately. We repeat – immediately!

wine stain removal

  1. Use some kitchen roll or a clean white towel to blot away as much excess wine as possible.
  2. Add a few drops of cold water to the stain to help dilute it, and keep blotting.
  3. Mix – 2 cups of warm water, 1 tbsp of white vinegar and 1 tbsp of washing up liquid.
  4. Apply the solution directly onto the stain using a clean cloth.
  5. Blot until the stain is removed completely.

If those seasonal stains turn out to be tougher than expected, give us a call we’re here to help! We will also be launching our very own cleaning products in January, so be sure to check out our website in the new year for more details!

Replace or Renew your carpet?

Replace or Renew Your Carpets.

Replace or Renew your Carpets

At Renew, we really do believe that honesty is the best policy, and we will always be direct about the results you can expect from our services. Therefore, if your carpet is beyond cleaning we’ll tell you so as not to waste your time or your money.

Sometimes it can be hard to know if your carpet needs a professional cleaning, or a skip… Below is our quick guide to help you know the difference.

Grimy carpets

Carpet, especially on stairs can carry a lot of heavy traffic and become dirty quick. Like most things in your home with dirt and grime comes the perception of age. Many of our customers are surprised at how carpets that they had considered throwing out, came up like new after our cleaning.

Worn or worn out?

Small rips and tears in a carpet can be repaired quite easily. However, if the tear is large or there are significant gaps where the carpet fibres are missing with the underlay exposed, it’s best to consider buying a new carpet. Also, if the padding underneath the carpet begins to wrinkle or gets damaged, professional carpet cleaning won’t help this and the whole carpet will need to be replaced.

The type of carpet you buy is important when it comes to longevity. Carpets made from polyester tend to wear more quickly as opposed to ones made from nylon. That said, it’s all about the individual quality of the carpet, so make sure to do your homework before buying.

The ten-year itch

Carpets usually start to look worn between 8-10 years. If after ten years your carpet is not looking it’s best, even after being professional cleaned and well cared for, then it’s time to go shopping for a new one.

Renew Carpet Cleaning

Stain central

Renew have an excellent reputation at removing even the most stubborn stains such as ink and red wine. Our advanced technology and highly skilled technicians have successfully removed even old, worn-in stains.

It’s always best to have a protective treatment applied after any professional carpet cleaning. This will help to build a barrier to prevent future staining and make it easier for you to maintain.

Biological stains such as pet urine, vomit and faeces are not as straight forward. If these occur regularly or have built up over time they can cause mould and mildew. Although these stains can be successfully removed professionally, if they are left they can become a health hazard and the whole carpet really should go. Better safe than sorry!

When DIY goes bad

Some people try to take on stains themselves by concocting potions and scrubbing at their carpets. These experiments can permanently damage carpet fibres, and will in turn mean the carpets need replacing.

If in doubt give Renew a shout!

Curtain Cleaning! Time for a Curtain Call

curtain cleaning

Hassle and fear – the two words most associated with curtain cleaning! Many people look at their curtains for months, sometimes years, and think they’ll have to get around to cleaning them. When they do set aside time for what can feel like a mammoth task, it’s fear of shrinking or fading the curtains that has the job being put off for another day.

curtain cleaning

Why call the professionals?

Curtain cleaning can be a big job and can go wrong when reluctantly done at home. However, calling in the professionals for important jobs like these, not only takes the pressure off you, but gives you peace of mind that your curtains won’t get damaged in the process.

At Renew we love cleaning curtains! It’s our thing, shall we say, and we take pride in the great results and positive customer feedback that we’ve received over the years. Our cleaning service is for virtually all types of curtain fabric, pelmet or tie-back. So you can rest assured that your curtains will look the same – except cleaner, and will still meet in the middle when we’re done!

Curtains are a big feature of any room, tying in colour schemes and decor to really bring a room together. They add warmth and block out the outside world, giving privacy and a sense of comfort. However, a curtain’s job is not only to look pretty and shield prying eyes. Curtains also act as a barrier between the outside world and your home. They trap moisture and dust from outside, and airborne dust from inside that’s caused by sweeping and vacuuming.

‘When good curtains, turn bad’

Curtains that are left unwashed gather dust particles that can cause irritation and flare ups for allergy and asthma suffers. At Renew our curtain cleaning process is eco-friendly (we wouldn’t have it any other way) so not only do we remove these dust particles and allergens; our cleaning process will also help improve your overall indoor air quality. It’s a win, win, for anyone who not only wants fresher looking curtains, but a healthier home too.

curtain cleaning

Renew have two types of curtain cleaning services, onsite and offsite (based in Blackrock). Almost all of our domestic customers choose to have their curtains cleaned in their home. This is less hassle and a quicker process. The curtains are cleaned as they hang, using dry cleaning technology. They’re vacuumed first and any heavily soiled areas are pre-treated to endure best results. We can all be a little fussy, when it comes to how our curtains hang. Our team will take special care to make sure all curtains are tidied and gathered to perfection when finished. We know drying time can be a concern for some people before booking, but with our guaranteed drying time of 2 hours, you won’t be left hanging around….

As with most things, the better they’re looked after, the longer they last – the same goes for curtains. Renew recommend having your curtains cleaned every 2 to 4 years. This will increase their life span, which will in-turn save you money in the long run. We believe that once you’ve had your curtains cleaned with us, you won’t look back – unless of course to admire them!
